Philosophy
This quote from him shows part of his philosophy, “But before all else, a work of art is the creation of love. Love for the subject first and for the medium second. Love is the fundamental necessity underlying the need to create, underlying the emotion that gives it form, and from which grows the unfinished product that is presented to the world. Love is the general criterion by which the rare photograph is judged. It must contain it to be not less than the best of which the photographer is capable.” His philosophy is love. He shows love and love for nature in his photos.

Snowy Woods by me
|
My first image is similar to Hepaticas by Eliot Porter in a few ways. My image depicts a grove of trees in a snowy landscape which is similar to his image where he depicts hepatica trees in a snowy environment. There are some ways the pictures are different too. His image shows more depth, trees, and snow.

Shadbush by Eliot Porter

Trees on the Water by me
|
My final image is similar to Shadbush by Eliot Porter in a few ways. My image uses the background of the river to enhance the main subject which is the trees. These images are different for a few reasons. The background of Porter's has a little more detail and the trees are different.
Personal Artist Statement
In my first image I was using background and depth. I used the background of the snow and leaves to enhance the image. I also used trees in the background middle ground, and foreground to provide depth. My second image was experimentation because I had experimented with taking pictures of animals. My final image was using background. I used the river in the background to enhance the trees in the foreground.
